Sustainable MK is a new charitable organisation (charity registration 1214180) established to take ownership and operational responsibility of the Food Connect initiative in Milton Keynes.

why?

In early 2024, with the support of MK Community Foundation and in partnership with Hubbub, the team secured funding to explore how the work of MK Community Fridge and Food Connect could be sustained locally in the long term.

Following local consultation with community organisations, businesses, staff, volunteers and partners, the decision was made to setup a dedicated Milton Keynes charity focussed on the reduction of waste, improving wellbeing and building local resilience.

In July 2025 we were successful!! - Sustainable MK - Charity registration 1214180

How?

Food Connect provides zero-emissions food redistribution from local businesses to
community groups. We aim to continue and expand the legacy of Food Connect, previously led by Hubbub, by embedding long-term sustainability, community ownership and local partnerships at the heart of operations.

Vision: to create a thriving, sustainable Milton Keynes where surplus food nourishes communities, not landfills.
Mission: reduce waste, support vulnerable communities, and build local resilience.
Aim: redistribute quality surplus food via zero-emissions transport to local community projects, addressing food insecurity, reducing waste, and promoting environmental sustainability.
If you have surplus food you want to share and would like to benefit from the Food Connect service, please get in touch with Sian Mackay - [email protected]
